Summer Jobs

We’ve all had them, few of us have loved them, but all of them were memorable, though perhaps you’d prefer to forget them. What summer jobs have you had, and what great stories can you tell from them? Good jobs, bad jobs, whatever. Feel free to expand the category to include just high school jobs in general. Also, is it important for kids to have a summer job?

Post-show thoughts: Summer jobs are great for kids to have: financial responsibility, hard work, stewardship, skill acquisition, responsibility, and keeping them out of trouble they might otherwise get into are all good benefits. But I would encourage them to take jobs that will train them or teach them things they don't already know. In fact, given the low pay of any given summer job, I would encourage them to consider interning for free (or whatever they can get) in a field they actually have an interest in. Apprenticeship is an ancient practice, and learning whether you really want to be a vet or a carpenter or whatever by volunteering (or working free at first, anyway--"I'll work for free for two weeks, then you can decide whether to pay me," is a great line) is an excellent way to acquire an educational experience well beyond the bounds of just not being lazy for the summer.
