4PM Food plate replaces food pyramid

In what I can only call a brilliant recognition of the need for something more practical, the USDA has introduced a new icon for food portioning to replace the unwieldy food pyramid. It’s the food plate, which shows the recommended intake by food group as portions on an actual plate (you know, like how people really eat) with half the plate space taken up by fruits and vegetables and half taken up by grains and meats, with dairy in the glass or cup to the side.
