02/11/11 3PM Commentary

This is how Egyptians are reacting to President Hosni Mubarak's sudden reversal from yesterday this morning to step down from office and give temporary control of Egypt to the military until democracy can really be brought about, street celebrations and chanting are ongoing at this hour. We are all waiting anxiously to see how this plays out not only in Egypt, where the Muslim Brotherhood is so concerning a political force, but also in neo-totalistic states around the Middle East where the formerly passive "Arab street" is now seeing two recent victories (Tunisia). There are some reports of demonstrations in Iran also, and everyone is going to be watching Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Jordan closely in the coming weeks.
