Words You’re Surprised People Don’t Know

I was just having a conversation with my wife yesterday, in which she said she didn’t know the word “miscreant,” which the kids had been reciting from a movie they watched. Since she was the Valedictorian of her high school, I am always surprised by such vocabulary holes, but it reminded me that there are loads of words which we might assume others know but don’t. Of course, there are also words people use incorrectly without realizing it and words we think people should know but still it doesn’t surprise us when they don’t.
