If non-Irish can celebrate St. Patrick’s day and be “with the Irish” or “pretend Irish” for a day, then the non-racist thing to do is to also celebrate Cinquo de Mayo tomorrow and be “with the Mexicans” or even be “pretend Mexican” for a day, right? Look as Christians, our duty is to reach out in love to the stranger and the alien, and I can’t think of a better, simpler, more logically consistent way to do that than by treating this particular holiday similarly with that for St. Patrick’s Day. Post your suggestions for how to do it well.
