Since artists have historically been incapable of defining their own field (What is art?), I think we should let garbage collectors decide. Garbage men know what garbage is, and if they think something is trash, then it isn’t art. So, when a $50,000 fiberglass cactus in Albuquerque was recently knocked down by vandals, the decisive verdict was rendered not by art collectors who rescued the project but by the city workers who took it to the dump as trash and had it destroyed. Conclusion? Not art.

Since artists have historically been incapable of defining their own field (What is art?), I think we should let garbage collectors decide.
