SB 1551 would have made it a traffic violation to smoke in your car with a minor present. Would this also have made it illegal for 17-year-olds to smoke in their own car? If you can smoke in your house with your child, why would it become illegal to smoke in your car with your child? We really need to decide what to do with smoking because this new incrementalist Prohibition is driving me crazy.
SB1606 would have let you buy HOV lane use 24 hours a day regardless of car occupancy for a year for $2500. I actually would have been eager to see how many people would have done this and what impact it might have on congestion since the HOV lanes are so underutilized right now. In tight budgetary times, selling a surplus commodity just makes sense to me.
