Anyone who thinks about it can pretty easily figure out that we sleep less than people in the past did largely because of artificial lighting. The longer the day, the more we do stuff, right? But there’s a whole new kind of sleep deprivation being facilitated by technology and the things we do right before we go to sleep. Checking email, texting, phones, and even watching television encroach on sleep time AND make sleep lower quality because of mind stimulation. So one way to get more sleep is to deliberately avoid technology late at night and right before bedtime. On the other hand, you could just keep getting the results your current behavior is producing.
